macOS, VMware Fusion, & Carveco Maker

Hello,

Anyone else using Carveco Maker on a Mac? I have Carveco in VMWare running on a Mac Studio M2 Max. It all launches just fine to the default screen, however, I’ve tried opening a .dxf (which opens in other software just fine) and it crashes Carveco… again and again. Also, using Microsoft Edge to try to login to my Carveco account on their website it fails every time. In fact, every browser I’ve tried in the VMware Windows 11 container fails. I can, however, login via Safari on my Mac.

Anyway, just curious what others are doing that are macOS folks.

Thank you,
Chris

UPDATE JULY 2ND: I tried several other .dxf files and they all crash Carveco (one is a very simply drawing of a single wasteboard panel). All the same .dxf files open just fine in MillMage running in the same VMware Windows 11 container.

Hi Chris - I use Parallels as it has always been more stable for me than VMWare on any of the ARM silicon Mac. In fact, I actually thought they killed off the Mac version of the hypervisor when Apple moved to ARM.

I would check your graphics settings in the hypervisor and see if you can some how tune the requirements within Carveco (like you can in Fusion). I know you can set Parallels to “CAD” mode and it seems to help the performance a bit. But then I give Windoze 32GB on the rare occasions when I still have to use it. I would also check to see if VMware is using Rosetta or a universal build instead of native ARM.

YMMV

-Tom

Hey Tom,

Thank you, I’ll check those and see.
