Hey Joshua,
however I would also make sure that the workpiece is not lifted by using a safe clamping method, when using an upcut bit. You confirmed that it was lifted so there’s a source of error present

Hey Derek, hey Joshua,
I find it’s a pain to look at this simulation image, especially since as it’s a screenshot so I can not rotate it. I opened it in a new tab and at 1:1 zoom, to me, the yellow lines crossing the circles are above the top of the workpiece. Can you confirm this, or am I wrong? If not, the fact that they are found as ridges in the top of the workpiece would support my workpiece is lifted assumption
the work piece didn’t lift when the depth of cut was too deep. we are talking almost 1/2" that i have the retract height at currently. even if it did lift a bit its no where near that kind of height.
it has to be something i am doing zeroing this out that I just haven’t got my brain around.
the ‘bottom height’ is for the specific tool path to not go past - this is something i just changed to see if it makes a difference. fusion 360 defaults to the pocket depth originally and should technically be the same bottom, but now specifying them all.
Hey Joshua,
why is bottom height on top of the lip of the dust boot?
what is the stock setup look like on that tab in Fusion? Are you specifying additional stock to the top/sides of the part? That would explain it cutting too deep.
@Aiph5u you may not have seen my edit to my post, but the ‘bottom height’ is referring to how deep that particular tool path goes. its different for each of my tool paths. it is not saying how deep the workpiece is.
this may be just a fusion 360 thing.
That setup seems ok, it’s really weird that the retract height toolpath is still contacting the stock. The simulation looks fine, everything seems to indicate the zero point of the Z being too low.
ok. so i went back and reset the tool paths and selected the bottom stop for each tool path.
also changed the stock z height.
not sure which did it, but finally got success… those are the only 2 things i modified from the last cut.
really appreciate you both taking the time to tease this out with me.
