Hello all, new guy here… I have been having issues recently with my z-axis cutting too deeply.
A couple of weeks ago I did a couple of v carves with no issues everything came out as expected. Last week I tried to run the same files and the carves were too deep - by roughly 1/16”- 1/8”.
When attempting to probe xyz using the touch probe it will do the double tap for z, then when probing for xy it buries the bit in the work piece by roughly 1/16”.
I have set the z manually, but when carving the tool paths are too deep.
I am confident that my programs are good, as I had no issues with my first couple of carves, this issue just appeared last week.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I am at wits end…
Thanks!
Hey Jeremy,
Sounds like the Z axis plunge issue.
You did not tell which machine model you have and how long have you been running it.

Jeremy,
You should not probe for x or y with a V bit. there is no constant edge to use for probing. When you want to probe, use a straight bit like an endmill, then change to the vbit and probe just for Z.
Sorry, I was a bit unclear- I was probing with a 1/4” down cut bit when I was having the issues.
Figured it out, had the wrong z slider selected in my options screen on the controller.
Thanks for the help!
