Questions on a new dust boot

I currently have the Suck-it dust boot.
I have hit it a couple of times with the router bit.
Have glued it back together, but am wondering if there is another solution.
I have seen several that attach directly to the router, but I wonder how those will work with 3D carvings.
Seems that it would work fine with flat work, signs, etc.
However when carving thick 3D relief panels (2 inches plus), it seems that the boot wouldn’t clear the material.
If I set the dust boot level with the top of my material (attached to the router) what happens when my project height varies from 2’ down to 1/2". Seems that the “brushes” would bottom out, causing the dust boot to drag across the material.

Hope I worded this so you can understand what I am trying to say.
