Redline HMI Screen going Black and loss of touch

Hi there friends -

As I get more familiar with the the Gen2, I have been slowing using it more, but its only on the weekends. So today I would say I run it 3-4 hours over a 3 day period. What I have been noticing is that the Redline HMI screen goes black for about 2 seconds and then returns randomly. After this happens, the touch screen is out of sync with my finger - as in it has lost its calibration. The job continues to run, and it runs fine with no defects. The only way for me to recover from this is to hard reset the HMI (holding down the power) to shut it down. Sometimes the screen will go black 2-3 times during a run, and sometimes not at all.

I have read all the articles about static and EMI and I have followed the instructions, but this seems to keep on happening. I have the controller and HMI plugged into a 20 amp circuit, The spindle on a stand alone circuit, and the dust collection on another. 3 20 amps circuits in total. My dust collection tube has the wire, which I have connected via a 14 gauge wire to the spindle mount. I have tested continuaty on this by going to the end of the hose in the back connected to the dust collection and touching the QCW. It works. I have also grounded the HMI to the QCW as instructed by Redline.

I am not exactly sure what to do here. This is in my basement, and there isnt much else going on down there other than the CnC.

Looking for advice or help. I will contact support if that is what everyone thinks.

A couple things I am going to also ask - the HMI diag logs clear out everytime the HMI is restarted. It would be nice if they didnt - then I could see what was logged when the screen goes black. I am going to try to connect a PC USB mouse to the HMI to see if I can take control of the mouse and get the logs on the next run to see if I can control the HMI that way when the touch screen is out of sync.

Thanks again for any help on this. I have uploaded several photos of my setup and also labeled where everything it conntected.

I wanted to provide an update here to help others just in case. All the tests passed on the grounding guide except one - the test for ground from the USB cable on the motion controller to the HMI. There was no ground connection here (aka OL). I saw somewhere that some redline controllers were grounded internally and some were not. I forget where I saw it. I will be contacting redline support.

Same thing happening with my setup, random screen resets during jobs, with and without the shopvac running, sometimes just walking by the screen if I have some static on me. Also was getting disconnected from the controller, the USB cable where it meets the redline controller is extremely sensitive and any movement of the table can disconnect the connection. Ive put the controller on its separate stand so it doesn’t vibrate around. No fix yet for the screen resetting though.

I suspect the VFD cable being so close to the usb cable is causing a problem. Also the stock usb cable isnt shielded so I got a double shielded one, though if its not ground, I dont know what good that does. I do have ferrite cores on basically ever cable.

In my case, using the PWNCNC adapter cable, I dont think its shielded, and its right up on that usb cable.
