Redline spindle Digital Read Out

Just wondering if anyone uses the Redline Digital Read Out for anything. I’ve been ignoring mine but not really sure what the purpose is for. Would it be for just varying spindle speed?

Pressing RESET to clear error 14, that’s about it.

Not that that’s a bad thing, but that’s all I’ve used it for. It’s kind’ve an appendix of what happens when you integrate disparate systems together, it has some value, but while it doesn’t have zero value, the value is limited in your particular context.

You can run the spindle without it, but if you want to make any settings changes to how the defaults are, then you would need the DRO. For example there was a guy that was trying to use a large diameter flattening bit that was throwing a fault after spinning down. We were able to fix the problem by adding 1 or 2 seconds to the spin down time. This was done using the DRO. If not using the DRO and defaults are fine for you, turning the VFD off then on will also clear the fault and let you use the spindle without all the extra wiring.

Thanks for the info. Good to know I’m not missing much
