I am running V1.0.9 and it’s saying that I should upgrade to 1.6.2 on my screen. Is there any good or bad to doing this?

take a look at the new capabilities and judge for yourself if you want them or not. If everything you are doing works then no, but if you want next level capabilities like revolution or ATC then you may want to upgrade your controller.
