Spindle drop/ Gas strut

Just curious if anyone has adapted a gas strut for the spindle drop issue? I really like the new redline 2.2, but the drop at power off with the BB controller isn’t great. I saw a spring setup, but the link was bad. Couldnt find anything about a gas strut on the forum. I also had experienced issues with homing Z with the additional weight, but once again onefinity support helped me out with that today, Sunday, fathers day no less! Really amazing support!

A block of wood under the spindle is a quick simple fix for nonelite machines!

I can appreciate that, but unfortunately I live in California in a somewhat remote area and power outages are frequent.. Spinning a 1/2’ bit into cherry or oak without control can be messy.

Easiest is to buy a stepper motor with an electromagnetic brake. You can use a small 24v plug to power the magnet while in use by using the tool enable on the bb controller https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/nema-23-stepper-motor-2-0nm-283-22oz-in-with-24v-4-5w-electromagnetic-brake-23hs30-5004d-b280
