The pause i don't want

not sure where to ask this I tried Vectrics but they keep asking the same question over and over “ what POST PROCESSOR are you using? I answer and then they ask the same damned question. I even sent them the entire G code for the project still no answer. So maybe someone here can answer it. My project has only one tool and it works fine, but between each toolpath the machine pauses 5 seconds, It is annoying as hell. I know G4 controls dwell but every G04 on the program is set at G04 P1.00 that is one second and it is at the bottom of a drilling toolpath. So what is controlling that 5 second delay between toolpaths? herre is a small sample of the g code between 2 of the tool paths. and by the way i am using the onefinity masso inch POST Processor. here is the sample.

I know this may be a stupid question but did you select all the toolpaths together as one file as the option in Vcarve?

Did you try the merge toolpaths option

so what is causing the delay?

I have a hundred of these do and the 5 second delay is driving my time way up.

This is the best option for eliminating non-tool-change pauses, such as an unnecessary dwell between toolpaths that use the same tool.

  1. Locate the post-processor file. Go to File > Open Application Data Folder in VCarve.
  2. Create a new folder. In the file explorer that opens, create a new folder called My_PostP.
  3. Copy and paste the file. Find the post-processor file for your machine in the main PostP folder, copy it, and paste it into the My_PostP folder.
  4. Edit the file. Open the copied file with a text editor like Notepad. Use the “Find” feature (Ctrl + F) to search for the pause command, which is typically M0 or G04.
  5. Remove or modify the command.
  • To remove the pause entirely, delete the line containing the M0 or G04 command.
  • If you need a shorter pause, like to allow the spindle to get up to speed, find the G04 P command and change the number after it, which is the delay in seconds.
  1. Save the file. Save your changes and close the text editor. Your customized post-processor will now appear in the post-processor list when saving toolpaths.

Is there any chance you can take a video of what it’s doing?

Do you have a spindle/VFD? Could it be the control is waiting to verify the spindle is up to speed since you have an S call?

i do have a spindle with vfd but this happens betweenall 6 toolpaths and it is all the same tool, the spindle never stops

I believe the Masso controller does execute a pause when spinning up, and spinning down the spindle. I recall the default is 6 seconds, and can be changed on the F1 screen. 6 seconds is suspiciously close to the 5 you mention. The pause wouldn’t be shown in the Gcode.

Even if the spindle remains running for the entire program, a spindle on or spindle off command might trigger the pause regardless of the current spindle speed.

Also, G04 (dwell) is measured in milliseconds, not seconds. I see you have 1.00. I don’t know if decimals are supported, since milliseconds is such a fine measurement, the controller might get hung up reading that.

I would try removing the entire lines with the G04 commands and see how it behaves.

If behavior is unchanged, look through the Gcode for the spindle on / off commands that might be there, but aren’t necessary, and remove them. See what happens…

Once you find where the problem is, the next step would be to configure the software to avoid creating whatever is causing the problem, or updating the post processor to not put whatever is causing this.

Looking at your Gcode more closely, I can see each operation has spindle start command (M03) when the spindle is already running… I bet this is triggering a 6 second pause as Masso waits for the spindle to spin up!

I’m with @MikeXYZ and @jrecup on this. The controller does not know the status of the spindle as there is no feedback (open loop). For safety reasons, I turn the power off to the spindle when changing bits. I’ve forgotten to turn it back on a few times and hit cycle start after changing bits. It will move to the starting position, turn the dust collector on, pause for 5-6 seconds, then proceed to plunge and feed, even though the spindle is off. I’ve broken a couple of 1/8” bits this way. :frowning:

OK that’s interesting, but I do not even know what a “S call” is. so please explain.

In Gcode, the S means “Set Spindle Speed”.

When we see S14000, we are telling the machine to set the spindle speed to 14000 rpm.

S doesn’t turn the spindle on, it just sets the speed.

Often you will see something like:

N31 S11000 M03

Which means, “Set spindle to 11000 rpm, then turn spindle on (clockwise)

Pro-tip: The N31 has no effect. N31 essentially means “Line number 31 of the program”. The machine ignores these N commands. They are used to help programmers just keep track of what line they are reading.
