Tool path run time different

I programmed some tools paths, looked at the run times. all good, the 2nd toolpath was at 3+hrs in vcarve, when I installed the gcodes to the machine, 2 things were strange…

1- when installed the file wasn’t showing the file name in the drop downs, 2 of 3 files shown, but the 2nd toolpath isn’t, however it shows the gcode in the preview area below, but no name, but it ran the 2nd toolpath, however…

2-the 2nd toolpath shows 3+hrs within vcarve, when I ran the 2nd toolpath, the time it shows on the 1f monitor was 7+ hrs, the job ran, then wanted to run again.

super strange. I hope someone may understand what is happening, and hope this makes sense.

Hello Katrina – no clue why the second file name was not showing yet you can select it. Something very strange there as that should not be possible. Make sure you uploaded the gcode with a properly file extension or the controller won’t ‘see’ it.

As for milling times, all CAM programs provide an estimate but they don’t know the acceleration and jerk settings of the controller so it will only be an estimate. What the controller provides should be a lot more accurate. That said, being off by 50% is a little odd. Are you doing a 3d tool path with a lot of z movement?
