Unintentional texture on 3d finish

We have the elite onefinity. We did a test carve for a larger carve, and it was smooth and looked great. We started the larger carve (21x34) and the finished surface is textured. The z axis sounds like it is chattering. It is all the same species of wood, and it was a new finishing bit. Any thoughts?

Hi Mario,

Iā€™m not sure without a picture, but some possibilities are: inadequate hold down, particularly if using an upcut. 21 x 34 is a reasonably large wood and depending on how you are mounting it, it can move up and down (flex) enough to sound like chatter, and indeed it is chatter, but its not being held down enough. If your finishing bit is a Tapered Ball Nose, for example, that is an upcut bit, but normally is only used for the last .003 inches of finish. If you are cutting, say .25 on the final pass with an upcut, I can be pretty sure it is flexing and not adequately held down for such an aggressive final pass, for example.

More info and a picture, and probably others will chime in with some thoughts as well.

Do you use VCarve?
It could be a software resolution issue.
