Hi All, I live in a pretty rural area and as it is getting close to stormy season I was thinking about running my journeyman from a UPS (uninteruptible power supply). Anyone tried this and/or has any pointers?
I have my doubts the system would work so flawlessly that the carve continues just fine. I’ve always found UPS’s to be temperamental, and unreliable (when used on a PC).
They are supposed to be seamless, but I’m guessing there’s enough of a “seam” that Masso would stop functioning properly.
For me, they have always been pain - whining for updates all the time, or failing a self test.
Given that Masso doesn’t seem to be bothered by abruptly shutting it down, it might be an easy re-start anyways if the power goes out.
Followup question:
I got a UPS for the CNC controller that will be on a dedicated circuit. I opted for the 2.2kw spindle (hopefully to arrive within a couple of weeks) that will be on a 220 circuit (without a UPS). If there is a power outage, will the CNC continue to run the program with the spindle off, or is there a feedback mechanism that will cause the controller to pause/halt the program?
I’m almost certain the machine will continue to run with no spindle RPM.
That would be a bit-snappingly dangerous situation.
I haven’t testing pulling the plug on the spindle to be certain. I have observed some signs Masso does not receive feedback from the spindle.
Thanks for the idea. When I get everything setup, I can do that test by turning off the breaker for the 220 circuit. Stay tuned for results.
