What does DeskProto offer that Vectric does not already do? I don’t see any compelling reason for the acquisition, but I’m clearly missing something.

I looked at Desk Proto (DP) on and off over the years as an addition to the Fusion I normally use, specifically for multi-axis machining. I believe this is where the benefit of the acquisition lies.
The most expensive tier of DP offers continuous 4th, and indexed 4th and 5th axis toolpaths. Although I have not used it, my research at the time seemed to also suggest it was more like Fusion in the variety and power of toolpaths geared to machining more complex 3D models, vs Vectric which seems to shine in the areas of 2D (signage) and 3D (relief) type work.
I am very curious to see if and when Vectric adds DP functionality to its software (vs keeping the two separate), and how they will set pricing for it.
Agree that it is the additional rotary capabilities at the high end that made me look at DeskProto as well. I’d love to be able to carve statuettes where the gaps between legs and between arms and body actually remain. Hopefully Vectric just adds it as additional new capability within Aspire.
