Z axis motor bound up

Just got the machine last week and in the process of homing to square up the rails, when I discover that it won’t home because of a Z axis motor alarm. When I try to manually jog the z slider when it’s off, it will not move. So I removed the z motor and the ball screw is free and works fine. The Z motor is very difficult to turn, not like the other motors.
When booted up, I do not get any lights on the z motor. I checked the fuses and they are good.
I know there were some issues with the z axis dropping when shut down and supposedly they were fixed. Is there a mechanical brake on that motor that could be possibly stuck? Or a brake that requires power to disengage? Any way I look at it, the z will not move.

The brake needs power to release.

Well, I feel kinda stupid now…the power connector was not fully seated in the power supply. Everything is now wonderful.
