Z axis upgrade?

I’m interested in adding a spindle to my unit and I’m not happy with my experience thus far with extended lead times and shipping delays with 1F parts.
Has anyone installed a third party Z axis on their unit and if so, what issues did you encounter?
Will the stepper resistance homing still work or will I need to add limit switches?
This is what I’m looking at for my upgrade and I welcome input or advice on alternatives.

Hey Jeremiah,

this has been a topic many times here. Search for “Universal Z axis” and “Z axis assembly” in this forum. If you simply add this Z axis, you will notice that your spindle center will be very far away from the Z rails and the leverage force will increase. The original Z assembly has the spindle axis very close to the rails. But it has a big disadvantage: The original Onefinity Z assemblies are unable to protrude beyond lower end of Z rails. (unlike on “usual” CNC machines).

Tom @TMToronto built a Z assembly, by the way.

I will read through the threads you mentioned, but looking at the info on this one on the Rover website, it shows that the depth of the unit is 3.5" from front to back, minus the spindle mount.
I will measure mine this evening and see how that compares. Thank you for the info.
