Help needed! I have been running an X35 upgraded Elite for several months and encountered a problem that I know is right in front of my eyes, but I cannot figure it out. The Masso is operating on 5.07 firmware. I have successfully setup a Coolant Pulse Alarm, Tool Setter, Rear Parking for gantry, and Tower Lights. Everything works but…
Recently, I finished a topographical carving and decided to repeat the carve with a deeper carve and finer toolpath. After homing, changing bit/homing, I set the XY&Z. Then hit Rewind/Cycle Start and got “Soft alarm on Z axis motion at line No:6”. After hours of frustration, I reloaded 5.07 and noticed the only change was that both the hard and soft limits on Z were now checked (before hard limit only checked), which means both limits are now “disabled”.
Also, at this time with a reboot of 5.07 I needed to reestablish Tool Setter, Coolant Pulse Alarm, Tower Lights, and did all these things, but upon pressing “Rewind/Cycle Start” the Z travels to top of travel on gives me a “Z MOTOR ALARM”. I am at wits end to figure this out!
I have erased all Tool/Offset references and confirmed in the Offset reference the proper Z travel; however, the same Z motor alarm starts every time.
Thanks
Arnie
Always check all settings carefully after every software install as any of the settings can change.
Did you rehome after loading the software and correcting the parameters, as well as set Z height again, and check for correct G5XX… but before rewind/cycle start?
Your DRO is showing a WCS Z height of 0.9459, which is above your maximum of 0 (zero).

Thank you for responding, very much! Yes, I did check my parameters after loading (reloading 5.07) and found only culprit was the check mark disabling the “Z”. However, after further thought I have taken a picture of screen after “Homing” and shows X=-21.0236 Y=-7.6122 Z=3.2618, shouldn’t these parameters show “0”, because the Z retracts to limit and XandY as well. I am frustrated but I know it is my error? I will attach my printable txt files for your analysis, thank you very much!!

When you home, the Z axis moves all the way up to the top of its travel, and then the X and Y/B axes move diagonally to the front left corner correct?
What does the MCS DRO - smaller one lower to the right - show after homing for XYZAB?
Have you checked that the wiring to all motors is secure?

Patience is a virtue! I have followed you on the forum and know you have the expertise to solve this problem, so to answer your questions; 1) yes, all axis travel to the left front, 2) MCS DRO is in a picture I have attached (I believe this means the absolute location), 3) yes, I have checked all wiring and secure.
Sent a technical request to Onefinity and they had me 1/2 hr ago resent the flash 5.07 and reboot. Sorry, that I didn’t wait for you to respond. Sorry! I will send you both a picture of the MCS DRO and the current 5.07 txt file. I will not touch CNC until I hear from you.
I have been operating as a hobby the machine for 2 years and upgraded in May '24 to Elite and have had no problems until this occurred. My name in Arnold Williams (c) 971-227-0894. I live in Oregon.
I sure appreciate your expertise, thank you very much

When you home for the first time, say at the start of the day, the machine and work DROs would all be zeroed. If you then set up a job, say at X10Y15Z-5, and then zeroed these axes and then homed. The machine DRO would be zero for all axes, but the G54 machine DRO would read X-10Y-15Z5.
If you were to ‘Go To Work Origin’ would the end mill go to where you left off/set up your last job? That would perhaps explain the non-zero numbers you see.

I have some very GOOD news!!! Last night this problem with my Z creating an alarm has had my concern for 2 days.
I have 2 computers that I use to create projects in V Carve Pro. Anyway, late last night I thoroughly went through the process of recreating a simple circle pattern and in the process I noticed that the “Processor” chosen had changed to “Desktop” and the Gcode was different.
So, this morning I took your instructions and established upon bootup the homing with DRO showing X0Y0Z0, then established G54 at X10Y15Z-5, then homed. Everything working OK. Then I hit “Go to work origin” and the machine went to DRO’s X0Y0Z5 and (G54) X10Y15Z0. Working as planned thus far, then I lowered the Z-2 and loaded my simple “circle” design and hit Rewind/CycleStart-----IT WORKED!!!
Conclusion-pay closer attention to ALL settings as you prepare a project and never ASSUME these settings do not change! A gremlin perhaps, but I bet that I accidently triggered a change of processor earlier and did not realize. Now I need to set up the parameters for Tool Setter, Tower Lights and Coolant pulse Alarm.
I thank you very Toronto for your patience and I hope others in the forum take note of these dumb mistakes we all create.
Sincerely, Arnie

Happy it worked out. I am relatively new to this hobby, and find there is a great deal that my brain needs to keep track of before, during, and even after each job I run - all this becoming even more challenging if I have been away from my machine for a few days, or something interrupts my routine or train of thought. I think patience, and well developed problem solving skills, are things we all need if we plan on being successful with our machining.

Onefinity and Toronto
I can not say enough “Thank You” to both for their contribution to education and learning, providing for all of us amateur CNC students to enjoy this venture. After Toronto and I delved into one problem and a resolution appeared finalized, another problem confronted me in the face. This time my X35 upgraded to Elite did not recognize my X axis coordinates. Onefinity support took my detailed email and within an hour had analyzed and provide me with a Masso Machine Setting that was different than earlier established. This setting put me and my hobby to work immediately!
I hope all participants of this forum respect and share their ventures of trial and error, so we all enjoy the gifts of creation in the CNC world.
