MAN I just do not get it… You spend lots of money on a onefinity cnc and then you put a router on it? so much time wasted!!! VFD my friends VFD
I have used the Makita on my Woodworker for the past 2+ years and indeed pushed it pretty hard without any temperature problems at all. I had purchased the EM60 1.5KW spindle kit over a year ago to install once the Makita acted up ( it never did) and finally just converted to the spindle because the Makita wasn’t showing any sign of issues happening. I now use it the way it was designed for my projects in the hand held mode.
We have been using a Makita router on our Onefinity for a few years now. Suddenly the Onefinity would stop mid carve. The Onefinity techs suggested we replace the Makita’s brushes because they believed the old brushes may be causing EMI. We ordered new brushes, but until they arrived, installed a new never used identical Makita router that we have “just in case”. This new router runs very hot. Can’t touch the collet after just a few minutes of run time. As a test, I ran both routers in the air. Nothing attached. No carving, no bits. The old router got slightly warm, while the new router collet became too hot to touch after just a few minutes. Apon inspection, I can spin the old router by hand and it will continue rotating 2-3 more turns after I stop manually rotating the collet. The new router that gets hot, only rotates 1/2 another turn.
Bearing/quality issues with Makita?
I had same problem with Makitas (even with replacement hi-quality bearings) which is why I went to a MakerMade router. Still on my first one after a year. Couldn’t be happier!

Exactly same experience.
2 different makitas both ran very hot.
I went with this router from carbide3d and still on first one. I have 3.
I have no affiliation with them but the version with an er11 collet is on sale for $60.
