80mm spindle mount announcement

Great question as to the stepper motor clearance as this would also have me upgrade. My 1.5k 65mm water cooled spindle works great except for the stepper motor Clarence issue. I had an issue with it leaking internally with the first one and the manufacturer told me the 65mm water cooled were know for creaking inside the 80mm have a thicker wall.

@OnefinityCNC any info on z stepper clearance? I’d like to know whether or not to include it in my order tomorrow!

it will not hit the stepper.

thank you for the info

Tomorrow is the ā€œgo liveā€ date. I assume that’s when we can request changes to machines on order for the spindle. I’m still hoping that 1F is going to offer drag chains as an upgrade but the 80mm spindle mount is what I really want.

we will not offer drag chains (we don’t do this because of EMI issues it will cause and is why we’ve officially partnered with @RowdyRoman to recommend his Hose Boom).
The 80mm mount will be an ā€˜upgrade’. It will REQUIRE the normal z axis with the 65mm mount. In other words, you’ll have to purchase the current z axis that includes the 65mm mount and then purchase the 80mm mount in order to swap it out.

Wasn’t there to be a last announcement today?

50mm X tubes on the X-50…even bigger than I anticipated. I was hoping they might actually use the bigger tube on the Woodworker, too, and reduce the number of tubes.

We are. The x-50 comes in 2 flavors:

1 Woodworker
2 Journeyman

Mea culpa. I failed to pick up on the fact that X-50 was referring to the 50mm tubes instead of the extended X-axis (I figured it meant 50" X-axis). I didn’t notice the ā€œLoad Moreā€ button on the page that lists the other models so I thought the X-50 Journeyman the only model with the bigger tubes.

Thanks!

It’s go time ppl! The 80mm mount is online!

And has been ordered… Now the waiting game starts all over again… At least I will get some interim deliveries, i.e. Laser and Jenny’s to help bide the time. Also waiting, for the Journeyman order to be able to be placed.

I haven’t ordered yet as I’m thinking of upgrading to the x50 rail (woodworker) to help support the extra weight of the spindle. I sent them an email to see if everything can be shipped at the same time. When I placed my order I wasn’t sure if the dust boot they sold would work with the 800mm mount and they didn’t have the touch probe in stock. Fun times.

The dust boot does work with an 80mm mount, you’ll just need to adjust the blocks that have the magnets in them.

When I placed the order back in March it was still a guess if an 80mm mount was even going to be an option. Knowing that I had 3 months I figured I would wait. Now with a month or so to go I’m starting to get serious about all the extras I want. I’m even thinking of going with the Journeyman.

Ordered. Now when will it be shipped?
