When I’m not working with my CNC, I’m often turning pens on my lathe, using various exotic woods and inlays. My wife, who practices calligraphy with them, wanted a display case to show them off. Here’s what I came up with.
The only part of the build that gave me pause was milling a 3-inch mortise 1/4-inch wide in a 1-inch diameter dowel. I secured the dowel on a V-block on my waste board, and it worked perfectly! This slot allows the top to extend when it is lifted, easing access to the pens.
