What’s the general consensus for the optimal height for a base for an elite foreman? For reference I’m around 5’10, also will 5’ x 5’ be an ok size or would you do it something different?
I am new to the CNC world and just recently got my Foreman Gen-2 Elite set up and running.
For your first question regarding table height. That is user and use case dependent. Things I took into consideration when planning my table was that I am 5’ 4" and would need to be reaching across the table for work piece positioning and clamping. Sometimes needing to reach over the Y rails as well. Also, I wanted my CNC to be the height of other equipment and tables in my small shop. For example, my table saw is 34" high and my outfeed table is 32" high. With that in mind my CNC table (top of spoilboard) sits at 32" high so my outfeed table can do double duty should I need extra space for tiling on the CNC.
For your second question regarding table size. For the Gen-2 Elite Foreman a table with dimensions 66" X 66" is the absolute minimum if you want the entirety of the machine to fit within the perimeter of the table top. By using these dimensions the stepper motors, wires and drag chain assembly will be within that perimeter as well thereby adding protection from walking into the components that hang out beyong the rails themselves.
If I were to build a new table, I would consider adding an additional 6" to both width and depth just to have some extra ‘wiggle’ room which would then afford me a little space to place the collet wrenches, bit and other items used during a bit change.
You’ve come to the right place for advice. Great bunch of folks here in the forum with lots of experience and knowledge.
Good luck with your build! Happy carving.
Thanks for that, sounds like I’m going to be going for 6’ square then
