While waiting for my Machine to arrive.. Elite Foreman 48x48.. I am wanting to go ahead and build my Table. Can anybody recommend a good size? I was thinking 60x60…. Should give plenty of room correct? Also, What is a comfortable height? 32” or so?
The 66x66 is the minimum for the footings. Your stepper motors, screen and dust boot will hang over the edges of the table. Build it bigger to have options for other things. I built mine at 66x72 then found that everything was right at the edge, preventing me from adding an enclosure. Fortunately, I had a 4.5” torsion top so I was able to bolt on hardwood flooring (3/4” thick, 4.5” wide) around the edges to increase the size just enough, using the tongue to hold the aluminum extrusions in place. (Note: There was still not enough room for the monitor, so it had to be mounted outside of the enclosure.)
As @HardtailSr said, you won’t regret building it bigger.
I built mine at 69x69 and it gave me about 4”on all side of machine. It keeps the stepper motors inside the table top. I was going to build it 72 x 72 but due to floor space I went just a bit smaller. The controller still is out side of the table in the front but it can swing around to allow for your movement around the machine table.
Here is a pic of my set up. Its not done yet but close. Make sure you use good straight boards. I used cheap 2x4s and ended up with a belly in the middle, so I decided to flatten it so my spoil board could be flatten more times.
