Kinda long Wi-fi trouble. Never have been able to connect to wi-fi. Have Onefinity Journeyman 50 with controller. Older versions of firmware showed wi-fi numbers. Newer versions do not (I have latest Firmware) however I know the numbers. One computer is connected to router then to controller using Ethernet cable. I have a laptop sitting 3 ft. from controller that I have to type the numbers into in order to control the CNC. I also have a separate screen plugged into the HDMI plug on controller and a keyboard and mouse so three ways I should be able to see everything. Using the laptop if you open fly out menu and go to network it shows two numbers. 192.168.50.XXX,what I usually use and 192.168.50.XX. I type in either of the 192. numbers and it connects to the controller so I can see the control screen but I can not see anything on network and I can not see the thumb drive if it is plugged into the controller. When I click on the folder to open files (main control screen) all I see are what is on the computer itself. If I use the separate screen set up I can see the thumb drive but still nothing on the network. Wi-fi signal is strong even through wireless connection looking on the flyout menu Wi-fi page. So out of 2 different connections 1)Ethernet 2) Wi-fi neither one will show me the network computers or files and using laptop can not see thumb drive plugged into controller Maybe I am so screwed up that I just do not understand how to get these to “see” each other. When I use my network without the CNC everything is fine. Hope this makes some since just hard to explain.
2nd question unrelated, should I be able to copy folders to the controller and not just individual files. Helps keep things organized.
After Geek Squad came today, everything was set up right. However he did say that there a network work problem in windows 11 and they know about it but do not know in which update the problem occured. Microsoft is working on it and maybe one day they will get it back. Everything use to work right until an upgrade and that is when things stopped working properly. Guess I just have to figure out something else. I use to keep all files on a thumb drive plugged into my router so I could get to them from any computer. My windows 10 works great just not my windows 11.
Have you tried plugging the USB drive into the laptop and accessing the files from there rather than plugging it directly into the CNC Controller?
OK Here was the whole problem to not being able to connect to the thumb drive that was plugged into my wireless router. Seems simple enough but others should know that you can indeed plug a thumb drive in to your wireless router (if equipped) to store your files and access them from other computers, even those hooked up to your CNC. My other computers could connect to my thumb drive except for one. A windows update turned off a setting. Once turned back on all was good.
- open control panel, click on categories (upper right) and change to small or large
- Look for “Programs and features” click that.
- On left side of screen look for “turn on windows features on or off” (click that)
- scroll down till you see “SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support”, make sure this has a blue box. That is it. This has to be checked on each computer that you can not access the thumb drive. Of course you have to make sure your wireless router has the correct settings to see the thumb drive. I did not want to have to take my thumb drive in and out all the time, it causes a lot of confusion. Thanks for any suggestions. It took a long time to find this answer and I want everyone who has problems to check this setting.
