Can’t connect to network

Hi all. I’ve had my machine for two years now and have never tried to connect to my network. I just used a usb stick to run my files. I have my machine in my garage which isn’t too far from my router. I updated my firmware so I could see which networks were available and none showed up. I ordered a Wi-Fi extender and put in the garage so now it shows the network but still won’t connect. Can somebody explain the proper steps to set it up. I really would like to get the full potential of the machine and cut down on my steps walking back and forth to my garage. Thanks
