Chasing the perfect Tram

After making my new wasteboard I decided to tram the machine again. At this time, I’ve got it down to within 1 thou over 24" on the left and the same on the right, however the middle is off by 7 thou over 24".

Am I crazy for trying to split this difference between the left, right and center? Is 7 thou over 24" close enough?

What do you guys consider close enough?

Hi John,

.007 / 24 = .0003"
3 tenths of a thou per inch

Using 2" dia. flattening mill it will be just over a half a thou.
I wouldn’t bother doing any more.

I consider close enough to be .001 per 1" for woodworking.

Yep, that is plenty close. Cutting wood you will never see that.

I bought one of those sst tramming tools. It does make life easier but i can’t say i can see major improvements over making a few seat of the pants adjustments and eyeballing stepover patterns.
