CNC Plasma Cutter

Its time for you to make a CNC plasma cutter.
With the quality and price of the onefinity, you would own the market.
It would be great as an option for the current system but I would buy a whole
new table if you made one.

The plasma cutting operational requirements tend to be contrary to a machine that’s also used for woodworking projects. Primarily in the materials cooling aspect of things. I have a 4x3ft plasma table that has a 15gal water tray that the material sits on top of (on mostly submerged steel standoffs). That along with the 25,000 degree fire spewing from the cutter head make for a combo that would be hard to support for the average wood bench CNC table mount :slightly_smiling_face:

The CNC plasma unit I have is the Langmuir Systems Crossfire Pro. There’s also a couple of smaller tables and a much larger one in their line. They’re the OF of CNC plasma (although a bit older in terms of producing machines).

And for the imperialistic people of the world : ), that is 45,032 Fahrenheit. Which is 4 1/2 times the temperature of the surface of the sun.

When I had looked at CNC plasma cutters, it looked to me that many used rack and pinion and linear bearings and rails - usually well off to the side and protected. I would be nervous of the long term damage the operating conditions of a plasma might cause to the finish of the tubes. It is an intriguing idea however.

But it’s a dry heat  Until it hits the water that is.

Maybe waterjet in place of plasma. But it would/should be a whole
new machine, not an add-on to a CNC intended mostly for wood.
