Elite 2 Journeyman making strange noises

I have a couple issues. My X Axis makes a grinding/clacking noise.

Back:

I’ve been told to add oil, but there is no instruction/video for the gen 2 that cover this topic. Also, it’s very obvious to me this is a bearing problem and I think that’s supported since it is primarily coming from one direction.

Does anyone have experience fixing these things? Onefinity support has been wanting.

It is hard to know where the sound is coming from through the video. Is it from the ball nut or the bearings? If the bearings, top or bottom one?

It sounds like it’s coming from the part that connects to the rail. It mostly happens in one direction

That’s a bit confusing as the whole thing is the rail. Can you be more specific?

Hi Alex,
Support here!

That is called the ball nut, and it attaches to the ball screw. Try removing the 4 screws that hold it into the gantry block, then remove it and see what it sounds like when removed from the gantry block. That might help you narrow down the sound and see if it’s that part or not. You can also slide the rest of the rail back and forth with it removed and see if it makes a sound.

Reply back to our email if you want to continue your support ticket! We want nothing more than to get you up and running!

I feel like all three of my rails make a clacking type noise during movement similar to this, but not as loud and noticeable. I wonder if a certain level of noise is to be expected during break in or operating in colder temperatures?

Sometimes it is the drag chains that can make clicking sounds as they travel along the support tracks.

Glad this is back up, curious what was broken?

Mine does same thing. Does yours run files okay? Both my carving and laser engraving create a ghost or shadow copy of the text I programmed. Cant use machine for anything right now.

I’m also curious what the fix was or what the issue was? I’ve also hear some crackling sounds when jogging my machine although I don’t think they are as loud as yours were?

Can you send the crv file if it was done in Vcarve.
It could be layered copy issue

For me, the two y rails are silent/move as I expect from when I’ve worked with other cnc machines. Only the X Axis makes the grinding noises.

Here is my video about it

Yeah this was my fear and this is why I chose not to cut anything with this machine while it was making those noises. Thank you for sharing this.

Onefinity has been silent on cause. I still have not received an answer to what this is. I have received a tracking number for a replacement X Axis but I am unable to get an answer from Onefinity to the timeline/shipping time. So for me the entire week that I have taken off to spend working with the machine is completely gone/wasted because of this issue.

I’ve never owned or operated a CNC prior to the Gen 2 so it’s hard for me to determine if the noises my rails are making are normal or similar to the sounds in your YT video? It’s forsure not the drag chains. Mine is the foreman.
