First Carve on the REVOLUTION 4th Axis Rotary!

At long last, Morgan finally sat down and carved his first project on the rotary! We launched the Revolution last year, so what took so long? The short answer… intimidation. When you’re used to machining on only 3 axises, adding a new axis can seem daunting, but once you commit yourself to learning it, the rotary is actually not all that different from a basic 3D carve!

Were mistakes made? Absolutely. Though, that’s the beauty of what we do here on our channel - we make all the mistakes and show you, so you don’t have to make the same mistakes yourself. We’re committed to educating and empowering our users, and happy to have you along for the ride!

Adding a 4th axis to your Onefinity opens up TONS of functionality and new possibilities. We hope that this will give you the confidence to take the leap into the exciting world of rotary.

Welcome to the REVOLUTION!

It took a lot of work to get it working correctly for me, but the results have been really good now that a lot of the bugs have been worked out. Thanks to onefinity for all of the quick help getting me back up and running!

It might be helpful to talk about what software is needed for doing rotary this way. Otherwise, if someone doesn’t know any better, they might go out and spend a LOT of money thinking they can do this…only to realize they don’t have the software for anything other than an “indexed” rotary.

ok i have tried this a few times .I downloaded the file and then tried to open it using vcarve pro the computer then gives me a blue notice that this app can not run on this computer. how do I import the file to vcarve pro?

ok so what are those pointy things you made? also where do i find files for the rotary carvings?

Thanks, Ken but I have 12.504 and the import component is grayed out. now I am confused as I thought I had the latest and greatest lol. ok I figured that out I had to close the job setup screen so now it is not grayed out, but it still would not import it. in fact, it does not even show up as available when I click on download file. I know I am doing something wrong, but it has been almost a year since I have used this program. I was recovering from a bypass and then sold my old machine and got the new journeyman elite and then waited for all the parts n’ pieces so I m a bit rusty shall we say?

Harry Potter wands. Any stl file used for 3d printing can be handled in vectric, just import it and you’re good to go

yes but these files are crv files not stl’s

To import a 3d file, a crv is a save file, so don’t import it, just open it like you would any other saved project.

what program opens a crv file I do not have aspire and it seems like that is what you need to pen this sort of file

You need the same version of the vectric software that made it (VCarve, VCarve pro, aspire)

I cannot attempt spending another 1300 dollars on the upgrade to aspire. I just spent a grand on refurbishing my SB9A lathe. My wife is understanding but even she has limits. I like being married to her. Maybe later in the year lol.

You can use Vcarve Pro to some limited rotary files like spindles and some 3D files.
Limitations are in the toolpath strategies and model adjustments

As far as I know Vcarve Pro has all the same machining capabilities as Aspire including 4-axis rotary cutting. The big difference is in the 3d model abilities. Creating and editing 3d models can only be done in Aspire. Of course you can import a 3d model into Vcarve Pro and then machine it with 4-axis rotary machining.
So if you buy a 3-d model or create one in another software package you can use it on the rotary in Vcarve Pro.

I am already sure I will get the aspire upgrade. I want to be able to create my own 3d files, and carve them.
