First time using the touch plate

I just set up my machine and was using the included touch plate for the first time. I put the bit just above the circle and started to run the code. It didn’t go over far enough and jammed the bit into the plate. Looking at the instructions and video it seems my circle is not in the proper corner. Is there different codes I should be running or is the plate wrong?

Hey Jason,

It is correct to put the the bit over the circle. Are you using the buildbotics-derived Original Series Controller, or the Elite Series Controller (Masso G3 Touch)?

If you are using the first, the touch plate is only for probing on the front top left corner of your workpiece. Other corners are not implemented.

On Elite Masso, you’ll have to have a look at the settings on the probing page of the controller.

Could it be that you have not attached the magnet end of the probe to your router collet, or that one of the cables of the three-axis touch plate is defective?

Welcome to the forum!

I am using the buildbotic on my new x50. I used the touch plate on the corner of the wood piece piece closet to home position. The circle is directly above the zero axis of the wood piece. If I don’t use the circle and position it outside the circle near the top right of the plate it works (inset from zero axis). Sorry tried posting a pic of this to help better explain but it won’t let me.

Hey Jason,

the circle on the touch plate does not mean the workpiece zero. If you use the three-axis touch plate, your workpiece zero of your 3D model has to be at the left front top corner of the workpiece.

Are you sure that you are using this video?

Everything is the same as the video but my circle is bottom left. It is above the thick part of the plate used in the edge of the material

Hey Jason,

you don’t have this touch plate?

Our touch probe is designed to probe the top right corner of the probe instead of the bottom left corner of the probe like some of the competitors. This is benefical in maximizing your CNC’s cutting area as well as helping prevent damage to your cutter in case your connection gets interrupted. We also double probe each axis to ensure accuracy!

The touch probe can only be used to xy zero the bottom left of workpieces with the X-50/X-35 machines.

The touch probe can be used to xy zero all 9 positions of the workpieces with the Ellite Series.

The buildbotics-derived Onefinity Original Series Controller is programmed to work with the probe linked above.

Yes same touch plate, came with my new machine as part of the fence promo. Only difference is where my circle is on the touch plate.

Hey Jason,

What fence promo? Onefinity had a fence promo?

Then the circle is on the wrong position. The Onefinity 3-axis touch plate is manufactured by Triquetra who also make touch plates for other machines. Maybe they sent the wrong one. I would write an E-Mail to support@onefinitycnc.com

@JasonC, with or without the circle, the xyz probe routine will work if you start with the center of the bit about a half inside the back right corner of the probe when probing the front left corner of the work piece. The circle is just a guide to get you close enough to the back ad right edges for the routine to work.
