Gen-2 X-Axis homing error "Closed loop motor error detected"

Setting up my Gen-2 Journeyman for the first time and naturally I’m getting an error right off the bat. After powering on the machine I push to home. The Z Axis goes fine then it jogs to the left to home X-Axis and I get the “Closed-Loop Motor Error Detected” error. I have replugged the wiring multiple times, even swapped the sensors. Rebooted and keep getting the same error. What should I do?

Check your dip switches on the X motor. If those are correct, check if the wires in the plug match the others. If those are correct, try swapping a Y motor for the X. If the problem goes away on the X but moves to the Y then you know it’s the motor/driver. If the problem stays on the X and the Y is fine then you know your original X motor is good and your problem is in front of the X motor. I doubt it’s the stepper/driver combo, but it’s possible. I would check the tightness of your molex connectors first.

upon looking closer the sensor isnt being triggered because it cant get any closer for some reason.

I remember reading about this in this post….maybe this can help you temporarily until 1F can resolve for you.

Can you inspect the homing area carefully to determine what if anything is making physical contact?

On that note, perhaps if nothing physical, then maybe soft limits?

  1. make sure you are on the latest firmware.
  2. go to the config tab and click your machine type to reset the configuration.

Had the same issue, different axis. Turned out to be interference between magnetic oil cover and ball screw cover stays. Easy fix, just rotated the covers.

Had the same issue. I turn off the controller, move manually the x-axis and restart

I had this exact same issue just for the x axis, all the others worked. I also have the QCW. What I ended up doing is putting a couple small washers under it on the outside, and this fixed it. I am ok with this fix.

I had that axis problem with my new GEN two foreman, and I ended up loosening the mounting bolts on the QCW base and running the Y axis all the way to the back tightening down those bolts and then running it all the way forward and tightening down the bolts there. Now my machine will home perfectly. I hope that helps.
