For something with that much fine detail, and with little to no opportunity to sand every crevice, I would be inclined to use a spray finish and a light touch. Poly wouldn’t be very “natural” looking, but perhaps thinned shellac?
Good thought. I’ll try that next time, but no spray on hand. I ended up oiling it.
If it can fit in a ziploc bag id just toss it in there with some mineal oil and let it soak for a few hours or so
Spray lacquer or shellac. Both dry faster than dust particle can latch on the piece.
Test on a scrap piece first.
