Jtech Laser not working with G-code

Hi there, I’ve sent this to the JTech Customer Service last week but haven’t heard back from them (disappointing…), so asking for help on this forum. I’m having issues with my Jtech laser module and trying to troubleshoot, but no success so far:

  • Problem Summary:

    • The laser fires full blast if I set the Jtech switch to manual, but won’t fire under software control – neither Vectric nor from MDI commands.
  • Details:

    • My Equipment: ONEFINITY CNC Journeyman with Jtech 14W DualPro laser module.

    • Software:

      • ONEFinity BB 1.6.6

      • Vectric Vcarv Pro 12.505

    • Problem Description:

      • Trying to use the laser module from model built on Vectric, but the laser won’t fire at all.

      • Tried to manually fire the laser with G-Code commands M3 S10 (also used S20, S50, S100…) but no success.

      • The LED on the laser module is green after I Turn it on and press the RESET button, and both the driver and the laser head fans are spinning. When I switch the selector to Manual, the laser fires at full blast.

      • The “Tool=type” option on my ONEFINITY CNC is set to “Laser (J Tech, etc)” and the “Tool-enable-mode” is set to “disable”

      • I double checked the cables - black tipped cable connected to the black connector on the laser module, and to the “laser” slot in the CNC controller.

      • I checked the cable with a digital multimeter and it’s working fine – not broken.

Any tips would be much appreciated,

Thank you,

Silvio Pavarino

I don’t know if your BB controller will make this different from the Masso, but here is my g-code start up for a file that cuts with the laser on at 20 percent power and 200 inches per minute. Of note, needing to change tools to t111 at the beginning, and how to turn up the power correctly after the M3. The JTech likes 1000 as 100 percent power. S100 is just 10 percent. You might not even notice your laser is on at that power setting.

Thanks for your answer. This g-code works fine, except that M3 is not triggering the laser beam. As I mentioned on my original note, no M3 commands - regardless of the power I use - is turning the laser on. The original issue is that laser will not turn on either with G-code commands or when executing the file created by Vectric. It still turns on when I turn the J-tech switch to manual…
