Looking to get a onefinity Elite gen 2...questions

Hi all!

I used to have a shapeoko 4 XXL, and had to sell it to pay student health insurance for school. now i have finished my engineering degree and have my first job, and finally have some money to spend, and I am looking at moving from the shapeoko to the onefinity.

My main concern is rigidity. I know the onefinity will have better accuracy and tolerances than a belt driven and V-wheel motion shapeoko 4 xxl. I have heard some concern from people about the rigidity of the earlier machines with 50mm y axis and 30 mm x axis rails, and it looks like onefinity is tackling these problems head on with very beefy 60mm y rails and 50mm x rails. according to some simulations I ran on a 60mm vs 50mm rail (6mm thickness, 1000N/200+ lb load in the middle of the rail) this should drastically reduce deflection, and it seems the only weak spot is the table.

my main question is for anyone using the older machines who push their machine aggressively, how bad of an issue is the deflection? I think my mind is pretty made up and i’m set on the one-finity, I just need some reassurance. I will be making loudspeaker enclosures, and would prefer to use 1/2” endmills and do some more aggressive cutting, although as long as I can cut at 100 IPM with a 1/4” endmill with good tolerances and accuracy (including a finishing pass) I would be happy.

I’m currently using my original X35 with a router so I’ve no experience with 1/2” EM work. I can confirm that I’ve yet to encounter any tolerance/accuracy concerns associated with carving wood. I regularly cut at rates greater than 130 IPM as well.

I cut aluminum on a regular basis (every day) and have had no trouble with rigidity. i have an elite machine journeyman sized. with a redline s220 spindle and Masso controller. I have an order in for the new gen2 journeyman which has even bigger tubes, so I do not expect any problems with that one either oh and in cutting the aluminum i am using both 1/2-inch bit and 1/4-inch bits. have at it you will not regret it at all.
