Makita Router Speed Dial Moving - Solved!

Sooner or later, we all are going to experience the speed dial of the Makita RT0701C router moving in the middle of a program.

A couple weeks ago after having this happen to me, I challenged my 14y/o son to come up with a solution he could make and provide to everyone as a packaged solution to this issue.

After a couple Beta models, a little trial and error, and some fatherly advice on design, material selection and procurement, here is what he came up with.

We also had a lot of fun today making a YouTube video for the official launch of his first product which pokes fun at the tape, toothpicks and bubblegum we all have used from time to time to keep that stupid dial from moving. He directed and filmed, I acted and we both edited.

All and all, it has been a good learning experience for him on what it takes to get an idea off the ground and bring it to market as well as what it takes to put together a marketing video to engage people and present your idea. I just love inspiring him with an idea and watching the wheels turn.

Kyle,

My order has been placed, and I can hardly wait for it to arrive to my door. I’m sure your son will be uplifted and overjoyed as more and more sales continue to pour in. May this venture foster future innovations!

P.S. Totally funny video, I can now dispose of my roll of tape.

Very cool - I just ordered one for my machine. The blue tape failed me this weekend in the middle of a carve but it took me a bit to notice it. Hearing the story about your son brings a smile to my face. My oldest (17) has a lot of entrepreneurial ideas, but usually they’re the ones that will make him an overnight millionaire (at least according to YouTube… LOL).

@AdamsLeatherWorks - Thank you!

Don’t we all have those ideas from time to time… then reality hits… lol

He is having a blast doing this and seeing the seeing an idea come to life and learning so much in the process. Hopefully this will inspire him to always be on the lookout for the next idea.

I hope that Derek continues to explore the possibilities… today, a mechanical bandaid, tomorrow a life saving (practical and affordable) artificial heart.

P.S. Keep up the good work Derek!

I just ordered mine! It was a great excuse to order the router, which I also just did. Now all I need is the machine itself!

I would drop a line to Makita and ask for sponsorship.

@4KENTT I swear he was not conceived, he was cloned .

Funny how he is exactly like me, only 29 years younger. At 10yo he could look at something and mentally break it down and tare it apart, then think of 5 ways he could make it better. I was doing electrician work at 13yo and installed my first 200 amp service solo at 16yo. Guess it kinda runs in the DNA… lol

Several more people who won’t have to worry if their tape will fail mid program… Thank you all! Derek is over the moon excited with all the positive feedback on his efforts

Well Kyle and Derek…
The product arrived today… the packaging is great!
I installed the product on the router…
Competed a job today…
Works great!
Now I can leave the machine and get a cold “drink” and do the “call of nature” without worrying about the speed taking off on me!

Great product, works great!
Thanks You!
Gerry

P.S.
This is a no brainer solution everyone!
This thing works!

You’re very welcome Gerry and congratulations on having the first “Speed Stop” in Canada!!!

So glad the first international shipment arrived safe and sound. Derek got quite a smile seeing this and loves that something he made is getting such positive feedback.

Gerry, don’t forget to throw out your roll of tape, or donate it to one of the OneFinity Forum Members, there are a few out there that swear by it!
