I have the Elite Gen 2 Foreman with the Redline 2.2 spindle… I just got it set up and have been learning the machine and started by surfacing some slabs. I found with my 2.5" flattening bit that I’m stalling the spindle even while babying some of the cut settings. The last attempt I only gave it a 40% step over with a depth of cut of .1" and it still stalled. Even with my speed at 30% of what the bit suggested in the default settings, it was stalling. I assume I’d be better off with a smaller flattening bit, just seeing what people have had success with?
i would step down to a 1 inch slab flattening bit vs a bit that size…
I am not experienced with the OF Gen 2, but my experience tells me a 2.5" bit at 0.1 is too much. Lessen the depth of cut. OF seems to be a great machine but not capable of beefy 2.5" cutter going .1. I have much more powerful spindle on a ShopSabre at the school I work at, and I would not be running it anymore aggressive than what you are running your OF. For flattening a SB .1 is a lot. Shave it down thinly.
your DOC is too far try .06 or .05 on your program. 40% is fine, ideally a 14-16k rpm and feed of 100-150
Here is what i use. I use the 1/2 inch shank version. Works like a champ.
