I have run into yet another issue with this machine. I ran a job last night. One that I have ran before without any issues. This time the Y did not cut the width it was supposed to. I checked to make sure everything was set to imperial, to match how I had set the job up in Vectric. Everything was in Imperial. I checked the Y travel after the job was complete. I zeroed Y and then used the MDI input to move it 12". It only moved 7.5" roughly. I proceeded to check that all the set screws on both Y axis lead screws were tight. That was not the issue. I checked the Motor settings and both the X and Y motors were set to 3175 steps/in. The Z was set to 5080 steps/in. This seemed logical/correct. Just to help determine that the steps setting was the issue, I manually adjusted the steps to 3000 steps/in for Y and ran the 12" test again and it ran even shorter. From there, I decided to reset to default settings for my machine. When I completed that, I checked the Y step setting and it had changed to 5080 steps/in. I have never even looked at these settings on this machine, let alone changed them. The only thing I can determine is there is some bug in one of the firmware updates.
I don’t need or want to hear from @OnefinityCNC that I did a great job figuring this out. I want to know why there are constant bugs and issues with their system. The Redline interface is great but with all the issues that I have had, I should have just kept the Masso controller until the Redline proved to be stable. There needs to be some serious work done on quality control.
I wait now before installing an update so the rest of the community can smoke out any issues and RL can fix them before I install it. I’ve enough unsolved issues with the machine to have to deal with new ones I don’t have workarounds to handle.
I understand that and that is a good way to go. With the issues I have had, I hoped that firmware updates would fix issues rather than create new ones. I can be understanding of issues. What I can’t be understanding of is the silence and dismissiveness that the OF support continually shows when an issue is brought up to them. That combined with the lack of organization on their part makes for a very frustrating experience.
Is it possible you loaded different defaults?
I work in metric so the 3175 steps/inch>125 steps/mm= 16mm pitch ball screw
The 5080 steps/inch>200 steps/mm=10mm pitch ballscrew
This would explain the different linear distances you observed - 12" vs ~7.5"
I am not familiar enough with the various machine models to know which have which ballscrews.
I don’t know how that would have been possible. Everything worked with a prior firmware version. The settings were changed during or after a firmware update.
I am only going by my experience with Masso, where I always took screenshots of all my settings, and created a backup copy of the settings. I always double checked the parameters, even going so far as to reenter them manually to be sure. So my suggestion was to reload defaults and ensure the correct machine version is chosen after every FW update- not implying you did or didn’t.
That is a good idea. I did not do that. I will in the future. I have not had that issue with any controller in the past but that is a good idea regardless. Thanks!
