My Bit Collection: Before My Onefinity Even Arrived 😅

Thank you for the link to the tool setter setup FAQ. I was following instructions from a video and may have checked the box for ‘Only auto tool zero when manually requested’.

Did your work origin get set to the same location as the bit setter? It smells like it was starting the job at setter location. Check your work origin G54.

Here is the primary way. You do not need to do all those re-homing steps. You can add or change from this procedure if you know the pitfalls and account for them. If you just want to not think about it too hard, then use below. This assumes you already have the tool setter XY already setup and working.

  1. Turn machine on.
  2. Home machine with current bit in it. This will “Tool Set” bit after homing complete. Let’s say the current bit installed is #1.
  3. Prob your XYZ on your material. Even if bit #1 is not going to be your first bit.
  4. Run your gcode. If the first bit in your gcode is not #1, then Masso will prompt you to change bits and it will run Tool Setter procedure after you complete the change. If the first bit in your gcode is #1, then you are all set, Masso will not prompt to change the bit as it already has #1 set.

I have a stack of those 1/16th endmills you link from ebay, I found them in a box the other night and was wonderingif I’d get much use out of them. Glad to hear that you use them a bit.

I use downcut bits whenever I can, especially on sheet goods. They leave cleaner top edges but the main thing is workholding. Upcut bits want to lift the material requiring a some type of hold down.
