Original Journeyman 48x32 BB controller firmware needs updated from 1.0.8 to current

Hello, forgive me for the random post on this topic but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with this. I have one of the original 48x32 Journeyman with the BB controller running 1.0.8 firmware. The last time I looked into upgrading the firmware was years ago and held off at the time since the next update had lots of bugs, not sure on the version. I only use my machine occasionally and all works well so I have kept the current firmware running. I would like to get the machine up to date so I can order a Jtech 64w laser. Anyone out there willing to point me in the right direction on the steps to get the firmware up to date? Thanks, Steve

Given the number of versions you’re going up, I’d recommend a clean install (re-flashing the SD card to the latest version). You can also do this on a new SD card if you want to have a fallback in case you have any issues. You would just swap the newly flashed card in for the original one. Then if you have any issues, you could always revert to your known working card.

Thanks Robert. I followed all those directions and did a clean install with a new SD card. Did a test carve and all seems to be running as expected. I do have a question however. When I was using 1.0.8 after each part of a project I would select “delete all” to clear the program before uploading a new tool path. Now with 1.6.1 with a tool path loaded, when I hit the large delete icon it doesn’t show the file or give any options to clear everything out. I get a screen that says select files to delete with nothing to select. What am I missing here? thanks, Steve

It’s now split up into two columns. On the left is folders, on the right is the actual files. You will need to click on “default” on the left first. Also the later versions of the firmware will revert back to the last file loaded. If you delete the last file you loaded it’ll revert back to the file that 1F loaded that can’t easily be removed. However, once you load a new file it’ll replace, not add to, the old file.
