Probing short cut depth bits?

I apologize in advance if I don’t use the correct terminology here. I have a 1/16 plunge bit with a 1/4 cut depth. When probing XY, a wider, tapered part of the bit touches the probe, as opposed to the 1/16 cutting section. How do I correct for this? Can I adjust the probing depth?

You are probing to set the collet center. So use a bit that works then insert the 1/16th" bit and probe for Z.

Yeah, Exactly what Ron said or just flip it upside down, probe x and y, then flip back and probe z. You substitute a 1/4" shaft for tapered, profile, round, spoil board and other weird bits.
