Question about actual red line spindle operation

I was reading through the manual for the air cooled 2.2 kw spindle, and I am wondering if everyone is using that warmup procedure every time. It seems like a long warmup to do every day. twenty minute plus? Does the brand who’s name shall not be mentioned. need this warmup as well?

I looked into this a few years ago when I got my water cooled ATC spindle, and here is what my research showed…

  1. All new spindles require an initial break-in which is often lengthy - I believe Redline and PWNCNC spindle kits have done this prior to shipping
  2. The main benefit of shorter more frequent warm-up routines is to fully distribute the lubrication throughout the bearings prior to machining - the longer the time between machine use the greater the benefit of the warm-up
  3. Larger industrial machines often require longer but more frequent warm-up routines as they 1) may have automatic lubrication systems with hoses and pumps that need to be primed, or 2) the warm-up is required to heat the various machine components in order to achieve micron tolerances
  4. The bearings on these hobby spindles are wear items that can not be replaced. The specialized equipment that can remove, install, and more importantly rebalance the spindle is typically not owned by an individual, and would cost more than the spindle if it were to be done professionally.
  5. I often run a short warm-up routine that moves my spindle and my 3 axes all at the same time. I however added a one shot oiler and push connect fittings to my ball screw nuts which the warm-up therefore also serves to flush, as well as coat the tubes.
