Every now and then, my ATC won’t pick up a bit during a change.
It’s not consistent - many times it’ll work fine, but every now and then, it’ll try to pick up a new collet, and I can see it spinning, I can see it pressing the collet down - but it doesn’t bite, and doesn’t pick it up.
When this happens, I’ll often do a manual Load - after wiggling the collet around a bit. Sometimes, it picks up.
How do I then resume the job? When I hit Start, it gives me the warning about it being an experimental feature - then tells me it can’t start at that point in the file (I assume mid bit change) - and I’m left with little choice but to run the entire file again - or go to Vectric, and make a file without the first few bit changes, and send that.
I’d love if we could pick a file back up after a manual bit change. Does this exist, and I just don’t know about it?
Hi yes me too, have had the same problem right at the end of a 8 hour relief carving, T1 did not load a darn sweep brush hair in the collet nut, I was unable to cut my part out because like you I had the “Experimental alarm” and could not get the machine to advance anywhere in the program.
Frankly, with a project I’ve sunk a bunch of time and bits in, I’m nervous of trying something like that - would it make more sense for the resume feature to do that?
Actually, I’d LOVE a “skip tool” option - then I can just hit start on the whole project - and jump ahead a tool change at a time until I get to the one that failed and resume there - that feels like it would be an elegant way to go.
Yes agreed but I did this and I got the same notice “EXPERIMENTAL FEATURE are you sure you want to start at Line 95190 [Yes NO]” so I went line by line for the next 5 or 6 lines and got the same “warning” and machine would not start operation. And yes 95160 was a line with the first movement code after T1 tool change.
I cleaned the collet had the ATC reload the tool T1 went to restart and I got a Z position alarm “Z axis out of position yada yada -1.5” so I probed Z to clear this error, went back to the code advanced past the tool change request and tool change instructions, entered my new start line with the first “moves” in the code, nothing just the “experimental alarm” I thought is because spindle not running? Tried several lines before and after “new” start line I entered - still nothing. What am I doing wrong?
It’s not possible currently. That forum post is in the feature requests section, so realtime cnc (the maker of the contoller and firmware) can add it to the development roadmap to hopefully fix/integrate in the future.
