Rough ok but 3d finish the bit does not come down to the board

I have been carving for about five years now ,I was trying to carve a file(Virgin Mary) I use vcarve software .my problem is I do roughing and it seems fine but when I try to run the finish the bit comes down and and makes a stutter and then it stays above the project about an inch and doesn’t carve anything but it seems to be running the code correctly .I tried recaculating the model, different usb drive, rebooting.look for lose connections. really strange! I tried to carve without doing rough and it started out ok but then it started to carve above the board again its not the board I tried 3 different boards and they end up as firewood

Your toolpath preview in vectric looks ok?

Both set to zero from the same location? The machine jogs fine, reaching the board?

yes, I forgot to mention I am using original woodworker 35 buildbotics controller I was wondering if maybe controller is bad ,and is it time to change that out? and what is deal with the redline controller

If the preview looks fine and zeroing from the same location. You can try loading the gcode file into https://ncviewer.com/ this. See if the actual gcode file looks corrupted. Or it looks ok in your controller. Im not familiar with your buildbotics.

I had a buddy run on his machine and it seemed to work just fine he has a different brand cnc

Well thats a plus. Your issue is limited to the z axis then and only during the finish pass. Other than that it works fine? Next could it be a speed setting? Too high maybe? The stuttering sometimes happens when acceleration is too high.

Are you using a tool setter or manually zeroing the bit for each toolpath? I may have missed it, but did you zero your finish bit before running the finish toolpath? It is easy to forget as we all have found out once or twice.

I manually z with probe.

Try to measure Z height with a piece of paper manually to rule out the probe

yes does the rough perfect!.I can try changing speeds tried another model and it did same thing.seems to start ok but then it doesn’t carve anything the bit stays above the project about half an inch. I am going to call them Monday and see what they say.i think I have bad cable or my controller is bad,

yes everything seems to be fine

so this is really strange I tried to bring my bit all the way down to the spill board and found that the router was bottomed out and that was the stutter,so I figured I put the ball nose to far in the collet .I am on my 3rd or 4th makita router and decided to try the harbor freight router so I dont know if there is spec on exactley where the router should sit in the support.the harbor freight router is ok I have had to mess with one of the brushes, next purchase will be nice spindle . any recommendations? thanks everyone for your replies
