Simple Maintenance Solution

If that’s the port i’m thinking of, I think there was a hole on both sides of my Z mounting block, so I think I unscrewed the ballscrew nut (the gray part in the middle of the photo) and rotated it 180 degrees, so the oil port was on the opposite side of the block from the Z-axis assembly. Here’s a photo from when I took my Z axis off to upgrade to beefy-z20 last month.

it looks like if you have a machine with drag chains maybe that’s still not ideal, but hope it helps somebody!

Gentlemen, have we overlooked something?
90 degree, 6mm zerk fittings

Or

and a oring so you can get it to face where you want it

No cap necessary.

Will these fit??

I don’t know how you would put oil through a zerk fitting and I am pretty sure you don’t want to use grease.

Ah, had overlooked that there are grease guns but no such (really available, inexpensive) thing as an OIL gun. Knew it couldn’t be that easy.

I would try pushing the bearing in the zerk with a needle tip oiler.??

Edit: Apparently some Bridgeport mills get their oil through zerks, with one of these.

I’d also sponsor your making a couple of these!

Thank you!!!

I think that this will solve all the pitch and custom screw problems and this will do the job of adding oil and keep out the dust perfectly

I do not have my new machine yet but i think that this will work perfectly for this bit of maintenance. as soon at i measure the cap that fits I will upload the size so you dont have to buy the whole bunch or rubber caps just the size that fits .I bought this variety because until I got the fitting in i did not know what one If any would fit but it works perfectly. the other fitting i might choose is this one but the swivel one looks perfect.

I’ll be interested on a report on this after installation. I ordered exactly this, but can’t see how it will fit. The distance from the o-ring flange to the outside of the elbow doesn’t fit in the small slot on the side of the z slider

kinda funny I don’t know if it will fit because o do not yet have my new machine and you don’t know because you do not yet have the part. LOL I am pretty sure you will get the part before i get my machine lol. so please let me know if my solution will actually solve it. I would appreciate it a lot.

my machine is just three hours away so I should be able to report on this very soon perhaps even this Monday. stay tuned. unless someone has tried it already?

Ok everyone it fits no problems at all. Screw in the brass part first. then once it is in at the angle indicated screw in the screw and viola’. you now have an easy way to add the oil without taking off the z slider. by the way I have several extras of these. The screws and brass part have an Oring so there will be no leaking of oil from either one, and there is plenty of give to position the brass part at the angle you need. Happy motoring.

and just so you know an old timer once told me cold coffee is a sure sign of shit getting done.

Yep,
I now have 3 fittings. One barbed as depicted by HardtailSr, one similar with a cute little spring tensioned flap lid, and one the simple brass one others have shown. Only the brass one fits

That is a terrific and elegant solution. Can you describe the brass fitting you used? And ideally, where you got it from? Secondly, did you use the original screw from the Onefinity to add to the brass fitting?

you can get these from amazon.

and thee as well. just follow the links on this topic.

no i did not use the screw from the onefinity machine. but then i maybe could have I just never thought to put an Oring on it and try it. lol. the orings i got from a set at harbor freight about 5 bucks if i remember right.

Was that screw the right length? or did it bottom out before the o ring engaged?

I went with this barb

  • some tubing and syringe makes this maintenance a breeze
I guess you could oil fill the tubing half way and monitor the level? all you need is a oil dipstick!

So far the tubing doesn’t interfere with operations. If it does, I will think of smth else.

it was correct the Oring engaged perfectly.
