Software for a beginner using Mac

I have a recently awaken interest for CNC and wonder about software for my Mac computer

Based on the way you phrased your question, I assume you are new to CNC. Forgive me if that’s not correct. Remember, with CNC, you first create your design (“CAD”) and then lay out how your machine will cut the design (“CAM”). The software to do these steps can be an all in one package or may be several apps that do different parts of that process. An all in one package is easiest.

The simplest software in my opinion is “Easel” from Inventables. It’s limited in what it will do, but the basics of CAD and CAM are all there. It will also run natively on a Mac.

Other popular, more advanced choices are V-Carve Pro and Carveco Maker. Both are excellent, but must be run in a virtual machine on your Mac (Parallels, VMWare Fusion, etc.). This works perfectly fine ( I run V-Carve Pro under Parallels on an 2019 Intel Mac with the most recent OS).

You can also look into Fusion 360 from Autodesk. It’s free for personal use and native to the Mac, but it’s a good bit more complex than the software mentioned above.

Hope this helps you get started.

Hi,
I was in exactly your position a year ago. Easel is good (free) and the other is Carbide Create, the free version. You must download version 6.5.x or earlier as version 7 will not give you what you need.
Carbide create 6.5.2 download - Download Carbide Create V6
