Surprising speed difference between BB and Redline (expected?)

As posted elsewhere, I upgraded from the BB to Redline controller this weekend. I already had the Redline 220v spindle. I’m surprised at the speed difference. Last weekend, I made about 20 coasters, with a small thank-you note engraved on the underside (photo attached). The cuts consistently took about three minutes with the BB controller. After upgrading to the Redline, the cuts take about 50 seconds. Is this normal? Was my BB misconfigured? As a test, if I lower the feed rate on the Redline controller to 30%, it slows to about a 3-minute cut.

Unfortunately, the higher speed is more than my folding QCW table can handle. I am going to need to beef it up!

This is normal and expected! The closed loop steppers paired with the Redline controller really make a difference!

When you say it is more than your QCW can handle, what exactly do you see it doing that you do not want it to do?

It technically “handles it”, as the cut works correctly. What is different is that the table is shaking every time the spindle changes direction. I assume this is a combination of the weight of the spindle+larger stepping motor, plus the speed the system is now moving. I had not experienced this type of shaking with my BB controller, which moved much slower.

that was one of the reasons i again decided to build my own tables.
