I have the Journeyman with the stiffy bar and the 65mm Redline spindle. I’ve used the recommended speeds and feeds for the bits I have but, since I’ve went from my Makita to the Redline I have been getting ribbons instead of chips and burning instead of clean cuts. It doesn’t matter the wood, but this is primarily for the 1/4 inch bits, surfacing bits and 3/16 inch bits. The smaller bits run fine and don’t burn any of the material.
If anyone could help, that would be great. I’ve gone back to my Makita in the meantime and am almost done using the Redline
With my Makita, I set the dial at about 3 1/2. My understanding is that’s about 18000 RPM. I found that I always ran the feedrate a bit slower than the optimal from the chipload calculation. With Redline I find that I run it at the calculated feedrate. But both created chips.
My most recent cut, I mistakenly had the spindle at 12000. The carve sounded off; but I was able to increase the spindle to 150%, and it sounded much better.
I recommend you utilize the controls on your Redline controller and do some tests, and manually adjust the spindle and feedrate.
Well I slowed down the spindle and sure enough it’s spinning the opposite way of the arrow. I was in shock. Now, my question is how do I correct that or is it a manufacturer issue?
On your control panel can you choose clockwise and counterclockwise?
If so see if it’s spinning the right way.
If it’s not then you may have a wire crossed
