Trying to figure my axis

Hello. I am a total noob, like literally just got the machine installed “properly” today. I bought the Journeyman pro with the wall mount system. The wall mount system flips the axis, so X looks like Y and Y looks like X. but I know that’s not how the machine sees it and that’s not how the Carveco software sees it.

In Carveco, do I set my X and Y like normal or do I have to invert the dimensions? I know that sounds stupid given my previous sentence but IM trying to do the mental gymnastics to get my setup right in my head.

my first project is to flatten my spillboard. but Im afraid of setting the workspace wrong and sending my CNC into outer space. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Hey Patrick,

if you don’t reassign the axes, you change nothing in your CAM software. You just have to remember that when mounting the machine vertically to the wall in the orientation recommended by the manufacturer, the corner that seems to be on the lower left in fact remained the left rear corner of the machine, and machine home (0,0) is on the lower right.

If you have a machine with different X and Y size like 1220 × 816 mm Journeyman, and if you reassign the axes by 90° in order to have home on lower left when looked at the vertical machine, so that you now have a 816 × 1220 mm machine, then you will have to edit your CAM software’s and postprocessor’s machine limits to reflect the correct sizes of X and Y axes.
