I have slices of 6061 aluminum and 1100 aluminum on hand, and I want to use them to make some decorations. Which one is more suitable?
1100 is a very soft grade typically used for forming applications. As such, you may find that it machines very easily but may also be gummy, so you would probably need to use a cutting fluid.
6061 is more typically used for machining & structural applications, so it tends to be a harder temper. I always use cutting fluid when cutting aluminum.
