I just picked up an x-50 that was never set up as my first CNC. The deal was too good to pass up. My question is would I be better off upgrading the router to a 222v spindle or doing the elite upgrade for the maestro controller first? I have some experience with similar machines as I use lasers and 3d printers now. I can’t upgrade both right now and I’m not sure which upgrade path will give the most benefit out of the gate.
Elite upgrade for sure!
Paul,
I have an Elite Foreman with a 120v spindle. If I were in your position I would look at adding a spindle first. Even if the spindle is a 120v model. I went with a water cooled spindle, so that air flow from an air cooled spindle didn’t interfere with my dust collection. A spindle with an ER20 collet gives you the best selection of bits to choose from.
There are many Onefinity users that are using the Buildbotics controller with great success. Start with what you have and add the spindle.

I think you’re right. Looking again I would have to retire the VFD if I did the spindle first. Looks like the elite upgrade is a better starting point.
