Z axis confusion bit travels above workpiece 1/2 of operation

Hi all,

Onefinity Elite Foreman.

Relatively new to this. Using Carveco to cut a simple 2D cutout and the cut is starting about 1/2 inch above the material and doesn’t make contact until about the third pass. While this simple shape is being made in carveco, this is relatively basic. I set up a toolpath that sets the depth of cut to the same or a little less than the depth of the material. I’ve setup other toolpaths exactly the same way. I don’t think it is a software problem but a me problem.

This started happening when I went to this 6mm (1/4 inch) material. I have set coordinates manually and set z manually. I have also used the touch probe with same results.

I have started simply, working to get a consistent process but this starting Z height is driving me crazy. It seems to me a fault in my setup approach. I have compared other models that I have made that worked just fine and the setting seem similar.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Humbly yours,
Keith

I haven’t used that software but is it possible you have the Z-zero in your program set to the surface of your spoilboard but have set the Z location on the machine to the top of your work piece?

Good idea! However, I did set zero in the program is at the top of the material and tried to both manually zero the bit using the paper technique and the automated zeroing.

I am guess it is a software setting but I am clueless at the moment what I changed. I am back to the documentation.
