Jeremy, You should not probe for x or y with a V bit. there is no constant edge to use for probing. When you want to probe, use a straight bit like an endmill, then change to the vbit and probe just for Z.

Sorry, I was a bit unclear- I was probing with a 1/4” down cut bit when I was having the issues.

Sounds like the Z axis plunge issue.

You did not tell which machine model you have and how long have you been running it.
